Happy New Year!
I hope you’re had wonderful gifts as well as a pleasant New Year’s Eve! Personally speaking, I had a great time relaxing after a whole year of projects, events and very interesting things, but I also worked hard on interesting stuff for the community that I’m excited to share with you all.
Here’s some highlights to you!
To begin with, here’s a video showing off some highlights of 2024 in our events! If you haven’t watched it yet, now you can! I wanted it to be both serious and goofy at the same time, and I think I fulfilled this quite well, don’t you think? 🙂
Would you like to re-discover competitive CS:S(v34)?
As a very interesting request, there are people who’d like to rediscover how competitive gameplay in Counter-Strike: Source (v34) was back then, before the heavily-disliked version on OrangeBox, back in 2010. So, there’s one that’s been in the works for future Saturdays!
Right now, the server is protected and still requires some internal fiddling for most use cases. But we’d like to make it ready for this Saturday. In the meantime you can head to our Discord server, so that we could give you help in setting this up.
* Oh, and we fixed the infamous SAS model bug! ;P
BaseQ Community EVENT: Let’s replay some Counter-Strike Beta 7.1!
So, what’s the best way to start the year, you might ask? With some classic Counter-Strike, of course! We decided to change a bit the pacing of the game, going for the first time in a version earlier than Counter-Strike 1.0. That’s right: we are moving into the Betas territory!
Remember this splash screen? This is from Counter-Strike beta 7.1, the version of CS we’re going to use this Sunday! And we will play it on STEAM (rather than WON2), for simplier purposes. All you have to own is Half-Life 1 to play with us.
If you don’t… Well, we will still allow No-Steam players to join us. However we won’t give you a download link for such things, you’ll have to find it yourself. But it’s very simple to find one on the internet, or maybe you have a friend who also owns it. Be friendly! ;P
Initially we planned an even earlier build of CSBeta (6.6 to be precise), but due to a major issue linked to animations being randomly frozen upon deaths, we decided it wouldn’t be a good thing at all. Hence the change to the Beta 7.1 version.
Oh, and the maplist you ask? Here’s a nice little thing : despite being an older build of Counter-Strike, we might NOT follow that route and give instead something more… “modern”. Get ready for the unexpected, that’s all I can say! 🙂
Here’s a page from our WiQi for a guide to install CS Beta 7.1 on Steam.
Need help? Head 2 the WiQi !
So yes! We now have a WiQi (yes yes, this is intentional) that is hosted on our domain! This is the last project that I worked on during the last few weeks after our last event of 2024 that might quickly help new players to jump in.
Please note this project is quite new, and that many mistakes may still happen. But it’ll be actively continued, so keep an eye for updates and new games!
