Sir, we’ve got hostiles!
I’ve been kindly aware that a long-awaited mod I wanted to see, Counter-Strike: Opposing Force, has finally been released in version 1.0. If you don’t know what CS:OF is, it is a community mod that brings back the world of Half-Life’s HECU team, against the Black Ops, with community maps perfectly suited in its thematics, new radio sounds, new skins, and new models! And if you’re unaware of why both teams do seem to hate each other, I strongly advise you to replay Half-Life: Opposing Force. Leave no survivors.
Anyway, I wanted to host this for this Sunday, but I was facing two major issues:
- First of all, this mod uses Counter-Strike: Condition Zero as a base and not CS 1.6,
- Everything that was inside that folder was quite messy (and sadly, a bit unprofessionnal),
- But most importantly, it breaks compatibility with the core game and the other community servers CZ offers, and that is something I strictly did NOT want.
So, I took almost 2 days to find out what files were actually used by this mod, and I recompiled the skins, weapons and sounds, while writing several plugins that brought back most of these features live.

Faster-paced than CS 1.6!
In order to make this event more interesting, I rewrote a few parts of the game. The result? This particular event won’t give you movement inaccuracy penalties in order to be closer to the Half-Life universe, while still being as chaotic and fun as possible. This means that the moment you’re running, jumping, or stay in a ladder, your first shots will always be precise against your foes!
Of course, that doesn’t mean you will be as precise as in CS 1.6. I’ve tweaked the weapons to be slightly less accurate by default. Where’s the fun otherwise? 🙂
Technical Limitations
Unfortunately, a few things were left out and couldn’t be ported ; here are the things from CS:OF that I wasn’t able to add:
- The HUD’s font,
- The Weapon’s firing sounds.
Other than that, you’ll have a very close experience to the original project, minus several of the drawbacks. 🙂

We need feedback!
If you’re curious about how it currently looks, we have a testing server on Condition Zero ; everything you’ll need will be downloaded while connecting. I might restart it randomly however, and crashes may potentially happen (but I doubt it), so don’t be alarmed if the server suddenly shuts down for a minute or two.
The server is available here. You can click on it to join!
If the mod is successful, we might most likely add it to a seasonal event
See you this Sunday!
