CS 1.6 updates: NoSteam OK, RetroCS mod is live, and more Deathmatch content!
Greetings everyone! we’ve made some updates to the Counter-Strike 1.6 servers that will most definitely please our community.
NoSteam? NoSteam!
Undoubtly the most important news of this article. After long discussions along our community and a few other friend communities of ours, Counter-Strike 1.6 seems to be heavily played by noSteam users.
Originally, noSteam support was a no-go as we wanted to prioritize legitimate players. However, considering that a lot of the Counter-Strike community goes through noSteam clients, as well as having a much cleaner Masterserver, allowing players to better see gameservers compared to the official, bloated one, we decided to allow them to join our servers. By the way, official Steam players can use a small script that takes care of most fake servers around ( https://www.patreon.com/posts/ive-created-tool-107522556 ).
However, we put a few restrictions to noSteam players:
- NoSteam users have advertisement messages a little more frequently, unless they are VIP.
- NoSteam users cannot vote for the nextmap, unless they are VIPs, or during Happy Hours.
- NoSteam users don’t have access to a few commands, such as getting the maplist.
We consider these restrictions to be non-intrusive to the gameplay, and aren’t considered P2W unlike most servers seen around. Consider supporting us to remove these restrictions!
You loved Early releases of Counter-Strike? How about we emulate that in CS 1.6?
We have considered during our last event a gamemode that mimics older releases of Counter-Strike and see how it goes. However, it didn’t go quite as planned, and lots of unstable behaviours happened. However, that didn’t stop us from continuing this idea at the end of it, and we are happy to provide a better version, while heavily improving the existing formula.
Here are what we currently made:
- All player skins are replaced with their beta ( < 7.1 ) equivalent!
- Similarly, all weapon skins are also replaced with their beta equivalent.
- Pre-1.3 Bunnyhopping is restored, as well as the supressed slowdowns after a jump.
- The Sniper have their infamous “preshoot” bug restored.
- Pistols can be used in the air without losing their original accuracy, like in CS 1.0.
- All weapons have slightly better accuracies.
- Just like in early Betas, you can now suddenly stop your movements by pressing “+use” while crouching.
- And of course, the Galil, Famas, and Shield cannot be bought.
We know that lots of things have to be modified to be even more faithful, such as having a slower AWP to sync with the animations, but right now, we thought it can be fun test that everyone can enjoy playing on. And, thinking of maps, we are currently working on adding classic, fun maps to the list. If you have ideas of what to include, don’t hesitate to throw in your ideas!
Deathmatch has received a lifting
We weren’t really satisfied by our current CS:Deathmatch server. In fact, the biggest issue we had is that the maplist was considered too “classic” for players. Even if we thought the competitive aspect of CSDM would interest people, we noticed it wasn’t really the case.
So, we decided to rework on this server, and along with the classic maps everyone loves, we also added several obscure maps that the community definitely missed during the last decades.
We have added the following maps to the list:
- de_alcatraz_cso
- de_palais2k
- de_lonely
- de_halla
- de_gothic
- de_snowfacility
- cs_office
- de_meco
We will regularly update this server’s maplist, considering we want to make you rediscover more than 24 years of custom content!
A quick story of switches…
Last but not least, we have applied a small update to the Rush server. Every 3 rounds, we force switch teams from CT to T, and Vice versa. You won’t lose your equipment during the switching.
This small change is something we find important and didn’t think of it earlier.
Thank you for reading these logs! Can’t wait to see you on these servers. In the meantime, why don’t you join our Discord server?
